Our two homeroom classes visited the CCE garden this past week and learned SO much~ thanks to two very special CCE parent hostesses, Dr. Brenda Zenk and Mrs. Lena Vahle. In addition to planting tomato seedlings and radish seeds, our students also toured the garden and learned many interesting facts.
Did you know?.....
*There are many animals that frequent our garden, such as: ducks, geese, frogs, toads, glass lizards, anoles, moles and mice.
*There are many insects in our garden that can be found hidden under leaves and on flowering plants.
*Bluebirds eat bugs that eat the plants in our garden and cardinals eat seeds that fall from the surrounding trees before they germinate into weeds
*Geese leave lots of fertilizer in our garden. :-)
*Bumblebees, honey bees and butterflies are busy assisting with pollination all over the garden.
*There are different types of soil in our garden.
*We have a huge compost bin next to the garden with rich soil accessible at its base.
*There are many flowering plants: pea, mustard, bok choi, broccoli, allysum, and carrot
We also collected some vegetables from the garden to make a lovely garden salad while on our tour!
We will continue to visit our CCE garden in the coming weeks to check the progress of our radish and tomato plants and see what other interesting activities are occurring all around us. :-)
